嘉賓介紹
Dr. Chiu’s background is in speech-language pathology with specific training in motor speech disorders, speech science, and neuroscience. Her research focuses on speech impairments due to Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease, and seeks to identify early decline in speech production to advocate timely intervention and prolong verbal communication abilities in individuals with neurodegenerative diseases. Her recent work addresses intelligibility loss when these individuals speak in noisy environments, such as restaurants and family gathering, and develops a perceptual procedure to help clinicians estimate speech difficulties in such challenging conditions. Since launching the faculty position, Dr. Chiu has published her work in top journals and presented in national and international conferences. She also was invited to provide a workshop for speech therapists in Taiwan on speech and swallowing rehabilitation in Parkinson’s disease.
